Actress Amrita Rao, who made her TV debut with Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchaan Hai

Actress Amrita Rao, who made her TV debut with Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchaan Hai, says everything about the 1970s era in Indian cinema is “classic and evergreen”.

“I think 1970s was the best time in Bollywood. The dressing style, the hairdo, the songs and the artists, everything about the 1970s is classic and evergreen,” Amrita said in a statement.

Most Hindi film songs are dedicated to traditional boy-meets-girl romance. What then should queer people in love do? Should they reclaim popular songs, as a somnolent Manoj Bajpayee does in Aligarh (2016) by tuning into forlorn Lata Mangeshkar ballads that express his feelings?

Mired in red-tapism and prone to lapses of judgment, the Government has finally amended what is truly a glaring omission by bestowing the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award on the veteran Manoj ‘Bharat’ Kumar. The jury may debate the acting credentials of Kumar till the cows come home but one cannot take away credit from the man where it is due –– of laying the foundation of a ‘patriotic’ genre of movies in Bollywood.
