Around this time 23 years ago, a film called Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja (1993) was released after being in production for over half a decade. Within days of hitting the screen, it held the unique distinction of being both India’s most costly Hindi film ever made, and one of the biggest unmitigated flops of all-time.
Satish Kaushik who passed away in March 2023, wasn’t just known for some his iconic roles as an actor, like Calender from ‘Mr India’, but he was also known as a director with movies like ‘Tere Naam’. His directorial debut was ‘Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja’ in 1993. This was Boney Kapoor’s passion project as a producer. Kaushik was an assistant director to Shekhar Kapur on ‘Mr India’ and thus, he was on board to direct ‘Roop Ki Rani..’
